Old Bridge, New Jersey - October 6, 2010 — Blonder Tongue Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE Amex: "BDR") today announced that its latest Hi-Definition encoder, the HDE-2H-QAM, has received a score of 3.5 (from maximum of 5) from Broadband Gear Report. The aggregate score was so close to a 4 that the 5-member judging panel of industry experts selected the encoder as “One to Watch” and to be featured at Product News at the Cable-Tech Expo (New Orleans; Oct 20-22).
The HDE-2H-QAM is designed for affordable delivery of high-definition (HD) programs over existing coaxial networks in commercial facilities such as airports, hotels, sport/entertainment arenas, corporations, and schools/universities. It will be demonstrated live at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo this month at Company’s booth #1815.
The encoder accepts up to two inputs in unencrypted HDMI or Component (YPbPr) formats. It digitizes & MPEG-2 encodes each input into a high-definition stream (HD-1080i/720p), and then multiplexes the resulting two streams into one output in QAM format in the 5.75-864 MHz range (CATV sub-band channels T7-T14 and standard channels 2-135). Any combination of input multiplexing is allowed, for example, 2xHDMI or 1xHDMI + 1xComponent.
One judge commented, “Blonder Tongue has done it again by providing a niche product to solve a unique problem. As content to bulk/MDU/Institutional locations go digital, older analog deletion/insertion equipment is being displaced. Providing a mechanism to digitally encode at these sites and return to headend for insertion into a QAM for redistribution is the proper solution over existing network assets.”
“Integrated AC-3 support and sub-band return RF output features are especially handy for operators that want to upgrade their remote LO feeds to HD”, another judge noted.
Both the HDE-2H-QAM, and its sister product, the HDE-2C-QAM, have been shipping through the Company and its premier distributors since May of this year.
