Blonder Tongue Ships 2nd Generation of SD Encoders

Newest standard-definition encoder packs 10 digital channels within the same bandwidth presently occupied by 1 analog channel.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Old Bridge, New Jersey, May 26, 2010 – Blonder Tongue Laboratories, Inc. (AMEX:BDR) today shipped the first unit of its second-generation standard-definition encoder – the SD10E-QAM.  The encoder allows service providers to add several hundreds of digital programs to their existing CATV networks without costly upgrades otherwise necessary to increase the bandwidth of the distribution plant. The SD10E-QAM is ideally suited for cable operators and providing service in commercial facilities such as hotels, schools/universities, sport/entertainment arenas, corporation headquarters, airports, and cruise ships.

Following the successful deployments of the Company’s first-generation SD encoder (the SD4E-ASI), the SD10E-QAM was announced first in March 2010, demonstrated live at NAB show in April 2010, and will be at Company’s booth in InfoComm10 in Las Vegas in June.  Both the SD10E-QAM, and its sister product, the AV10E-QAM, are now available for shipping through the Company and its premier distributors.

Product Description and Features

SD10E-QAM accepts up to ten (10) inputs in digital SD-SDI or analog Audio/Video formats. The encoder digitizes & MPEG-2 encodes each input into a standard-definition stream (SD-480i), and then multiplexes the resulting ten (10) streams into one (1) output in QAM format in the 5.75-864 MHz range (CATV sub-band channels T7-T14 and standard channels 2-135). Any combination of input multiplexing is allowed, for example, 10xSD-SDI or 6xSD-SDI+4xAV.

AV10E-QAM is identical to SD10E-QAM but without the SD-SDI input interface - it accepts ten (10) inputs in Analog Audio/Video format only.

The following features are standard:
• Digitizes, encodes, and multiplexes up to ten digital SD-SDI (480) and analog NTSC baseband Audio/Video inputs into one QAM output
• Provides sub-band QAM output channels T7-T14 suitable for digital return-path applications
• Allows 10:1 multiplexing of any input combinations, for example (6xSD)+(4xAV)
• Compatible with NTSC analog format, and ITU Annex A & B digital QAM formats
• Supports PSIP configuration for flexible major/minor channel assignments
• Comprehensive GUI-based monitoring and control menu via Web browser
• Equipped with auto-sensing Emergency Alert System (EAS) interface
• Support EIA-608 (NTSC line 21) Closed Captioning
• Real-time Dolby® Digital (AC-3) audio encoding
• Supports QAM 1024 Modulation
