Blonder Tongue Ships 2nd Generation of HD Encoders

Two feature-rich HD encoders provide affordable solution for hospitality, education, & entertainment markets.

Old Bridge, New Jersey, May 11, 2010 – Blonder Tongue Laboratories, Inc. (AMEX:BDR) today shipped its first HDE-2H-QAM encoder, the Company’s second generation of high-definition encoders. The HDE-2H-QAM is designed for affordable delivery of high-definition (HD) programs over existing coaxial networks in commercial facilities such as airports, hotels, sport/entertainment arenas, corporations, and schools/universities.

Following the successful deployments of the Company’s first-generation of HD products (HDE-QAM, and HDE-ASI), the HDE-2H-QAM was announced first in December 2009, demonstrated live at NAB show in April 2010, and will be shown at InfoComm10 in Las Vegas in June. Both the HDE-2H-QAM, and its sister product, the HDE-2C-QAM, are now available for shipping through the Company and its premier distributors.

Product Description and Features

HDE-2H-QAM accepts up to two (2) inputs in unencrypted HDMI or Component (YPbPr) formats. The encoder digitizes & MPEG-2 encodes each input into a high-definition stream (HD-1080i/720p), and then multiplexes the resulting two (2) streams into one (1) output in QAM format in the 5.75-864 MHz range (CATV sub-band channels T7-T14 and standard channels 2-135). Any combination of input multiplexing is allowed, for example, 2xHDMI or 1xHDMI+1xComponent.

HDE-2C-QAM is identical to HDE-2H-QAM but without the HDMI input interface - it accepts two (2) inputs in Component (YPbPr) format only.

•      Sub-band QAM output channels T7-T14 suitable for digital return-path applications
•      Compatible with NTSC analog format, and ITU Annex A & B digital QAM formats
•      Comprehensive GUI-based monitoring and control menu via Web browser
•      Real-time Dolby Digital (AC-3) audio encoding
•      A front-panel ancillary ASI output
•      Equipped with EAS interface
•      EIA-608 Closed Captioning
•      Flexible PSIP configuration
•      QAM 1024 Modulation
