Blonder Tongue debuts its latest EdgeQAM and ASI-to-IP Multiplexer at 2011 SCTE Cable-Tec Expo

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

OLD BRIDGE, New Jersey, October 10, 2011 – Blonder Tongue Laboratories, Inc. (AMEX:BDR)  is pleased to return to Cable-Tec in booth # 908. The company will present and demonstrate (i) EQAM-420A – designed to allow MSOs and Independent Cable Operators deliver free-to-guest HD services to hotels, and (ii) MUX-12A-IP, a multiplexer designed for cherry-picking applications allowing the operator to select 20 programs from a total of 144 unencrypted SD or HD input programs. Special this year, hot off the Press, BT will be giving away a limited quantity of the new and improved Broadband Reference Guide.

[1] The EQAM-420A (EdgeQAM), shipping now and the third generation in the series, enables operators to deliver free-to-guest HD programs in the hospitality market economically. This unit is designed to be installed at the edge of the operators IP-over-fiber core transport network, for example a hotel building, and to transcode up to 24 HD MPEG-2 or H.264 programs from IP to QAM RF channels. To prevent content piracy of the HD programs and comply with hospitality requirements, the EQAM-420 will encrypt the RF output with Pro:Idiom™ technology all the way to the TV set in each hotel room. Comprehensive GUI based remote monitoring and control capabilities, including SNMP based management permit the operators to remotely manage, operate, and troubleshoot the network via any standard web browser.

[2] The MUX-12A-IP (Multiplexer; 12:1 ASI-to-IP), shipping now, accepts up to 12 inputs in ASI format, each containing up to 12 unencrypted programs. From these possible 144 input programs, the operator can select 20, and multiplex them into up to four MPEG-2 or H.264 transport streams. These multiplexed streams are then encapsulated and assigned to a GigE output for a UDP or RTP and uni-cast or multi-cast distribution over any standard Ethernet network. This unit also allows the operator to re-assign PSIP information for each of the 20 output channels. This gives the operator the flexibility to create virtual channel numbers and names that are then embedded into the streams. The multiplexer is equipped with an EAS interface to comply with Emergency Alert requirements. Comprehensive remote monitoring and control, including SNMP and SysLog features are provided via a GUI based interface using any standard web browser.
