R.L. Drake Holdings, will bring more than 140 years of combined engineering and manufacturing excellence with solid histories of delivering reliable, quality products to the 2017 NAB Show, on September 24-27, in Booth # SU7521, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Blonder Tongue's New Zixi IP Processor (ZIPP)

Content Acquisition Processor


Blonder Tongue will highlight their new ZIPP (Zixi IP Processor), developed specifically to support Cable Operators and Broadcasters when using the Internet to transport linear programming between studios or remote origination sites, and headend or transmitter facilities.


The unit utilizes Zixi Feeder and Zixi Receiver software functionality to allow service providers acquire content from anywhere in the world where there is an Internet connection, without worrying about the video source location, and without incurring third party expenses.


The unit operates in two Zixi software modes:

  • ZIPP Mode: accepts high-quality video in IP or ASI, and processes four (4) transport streams (up to 20 Mbps each) with the Zixi video optimized protocol.
  • UNZIPP Mode: receives up to four (4) Zixi IP transport streams for outputting IP, ASI, or RF QAM channels. Note: Zixi link license for each transport stream is required and sold separately.

High Definition Decoder Module

Broadcast / Professional Video Decoder

Blonder Tongue will demonstrate the HDDM, a low-cost, professional video decoder that can decode a single IP transport stream, off-air digital 8VSB channel, or a program from a clear QAM source. 

The unit accepts content in either MPEG-2 or H.264 video formats and simultaneously outputs 1xSDI, 1xHDMI, 1xComponent and 1xComposite video interfaces with embedded audio or separate analog audio. SDI outputs are 3G-SDI, HD-SDI, or SD-SDI formats.


The HDDM can be used as a stand-alone, high quality decoder, or used together with Blonder Tongue’s new ZIPP (Zixi IP Processor), LiveCast or HDIP encoders.

Low Latency Live Broadcast Encoder

Professional MPEG-2 HD Encoder


Blonder Tongue will demonstrate the HDE-4S-PRO, designed to deliver superior motion optimization for fast-paced, live programming. A low latency option is offered to significantly reduce a standard encoder’s time delay, which is recommended for applications that encodes and distributes live programming on-site, such in stadiums and arenas.

The unit accepts up to four (4) HD programs from HD-SDI format input. MPEG-2 encoded outputs are available in the following formats simultaneously: QAM, IP, and ASI. To improve transport efficiency, the unit allows the operator to assign up to four (4) programs to each QAM output channel, and individually turn on/off each of the four (4) adjacent QAM output channels.

Studio LiveLAN™ System


Blonder Tongue will demonstrate their new Studio LiveLAN™ solution that allows operators to deploy high-quality IP video over Local Area Networks (LAN) to any mobile or desktop device at a cost-effective price. The Studio LiveLAN™ system is an end-to-end solution that enables distribution of live content over existing LAN, including Wi-Fi.  Blonder Tongue has seamlessly integrated a Channel Selection Menu, Just-in-Time Transcoding, and HLS Streaming into a single 2RU server.

The Studio LiveLAN™ system is specifically tailored to applications where a large number of live programs are available (>100), and where it is not necessary to deliver all of them simultaneously. By not transcoding all programs at the same time, the overall system cost is reduced for a more affordable solution.

Option-Filled Flexible Transmodulator

FlexCoder Provides Endless Possibilities


Blonder Tongue will demonstrate the FlexCoder, which can be used as a stand-alone unit, or rack-mounted two across 1RU. The unit ships with three Modes of Operation, and offers an RF input board option for transcoding an 8VSB (digital off-air) or clear QAM channel to QAM, ASI, or IP. 

  • Mode 1: PASS-THRU converts ASI or IP video streams to QAM
  • Mode 2: DEMUX (factory default) de-multiplexes MPTS to SPTS in MPEG-2 or H.264/H.265 formats
  • Mode 3: MUX multiplexes SPTS to MPTS via IP and/or QAM in MPEG-2 or H.264/H.265 formats

The possibilities are endless when it comes to integrating this product into a video distribution system, as it can transmodulate any physical layer and convert it to something else. By providing a wide-range of functionality in a compact solution, the 
FlexCoder brings remarkable cost savings. It is ideal for video labs and campus environments where custom channel line-ups are created for in-house distribution. The device also supports AC3, E-AC3, and AAC audio formats.
